In most residential cases across Atlanta, permission isn’t required to install a retractable awning; however, it is always a good idea to check with your local municipality or HOA. At Softek Awnings, we’ve worked with hundreds of homeowners and are familiar with the local zoning norms. If your home is in a historic district or governed by an HOA, you may need to secure additional approvals before installation. Our team is always happy to assist with this process. For commercial properties or branded awnings, like the ones we’ve installed at Emory University, Taco Mac, and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, more stringent regulations often apply, particularly when projects extend into public spaces or require signage approvals. With nearly 30 years of experience, we’re known for delivering high-quality work on time and on budget.

We design and install retractable awnings across north Georgia with durability in mind, but all retractables should be brought in during heavy rain and winds. While the fabric is water-resistant and handles light rainfall just fine, Georgia storms can be unpredictable and intense. Prolonged exposure to heavy rain or standing water can stress the fabric and frame. For safety and longevity, we recommend pulling the awning in when the forecast looks stormy. Softek Awnings also highly recommends a wind sensor with every installation that automatically retracts the awning when winds are present.

When you invest in a high-quality retractable awning from Softek Awnings, you can expect it to last 10 to 15 years or more. We use premium materials and proven installation methods that stand up to Atlanta’s climate. Factors like UV exposure, wind, and rain can affect lifespan, but with regular cleaning and proper care, many of our clients enjoy their awnings well beyond a decade. Softek’s reputation for durability and craftsmanship is why our work can be seen at places like Phipps Plaza and Mellow Mushroom locations across Atlanta.

Atlanta, GA weather can be unpredictable, and at Softek Awnings, we always advise our customers to be cautious with high winds. Most retractable awnings we install are rated for wind speeds up to 20–25 mph, which is about a Level 5 on the Beaufort Scale. Beyond that, the awning should be retracted to prevent damage. We also suggest installing a wind sensor that automatically retracts the awning when winds pick up, ideal for peace of mind in the Georgia climate, especially when paired with durable deck canopy services Atlanta solutions designed for added protection.
